Job summary

Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago, IL seeks a Public Safety Officer to maintain a secure environment at the front line of service, protecting patients, staff and visitors while securing contents and assets.

The officer will patrol, respond to alarms, enforce safety rules, and assist with transport and traffic control, requiring a HS diploma and Illinois security training or Peace Officer certification. Shifts may include weekends.

Qualifications

• Completion of a high school diploma.
• Minimum of 20 Hours Training outlined by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation, or certification as a Peace Officer in the State of Illinois.
• Security experience – 2 years preferred.
• Knowledge of security procedures, investigation techniques and reporting and public safety rules and codes.
• Three to six month’s orientation to acquire familiarity with SRALab policies and procedures.
• Strong interpersonal skills and 1 year customer service experience.
• Ability to interact with staff and patients professionally.
• Ability to restrain hostile persons when necessary.
• Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s license or obtain within 6 months.
• Certification in IAHSS Beginner Course within 12 months.
• Associate degree in criminal justice or military experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Patrols assigned areas, searching for safety hazards, unauthorized persons, and other potential sources of harm.
• Maintains secure facilities, controlling access to rooms and offices.
• Responds to alarms, disturbances, suspicious persons, and other public service calls.
• Conducts investigations and prepares written reports.
• Enforces hospital safety and security rules and policies.
• Provides directions and information to patients, visitors and staff.
• Assists with transporting employees via security vehicle.
• Assists with traffic control at main driveway and parking garage.
• Transports prescriptions, blood, patient stats, and doctors’ orders as needed.
