Job summary

Thresholds is hiring a Peer Engagement Specialist to respond to mental health crises on the south side of Chicago. You will join the Mobile Crisis Response Team, assess safety, and connect callers to appropriate services or providers. You will meet clients in the community with a Crisis Worker and document services provided.

The role emphasizes peer support through personal recovery experiences, ongoing professional development, and collaboration in a mission-driven team environment.

Qualifications

• Lived and living experience with personal mental health recovery.
• Passion for mental health advocacy.
• Effective communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to problem-solve.
• Strong time management and organization.
• At least 23 years old and valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Respond to mental health crises on the south side of Chicago.
• Conduct safety assessments and determine appropriate response.
• Connect callers to services or providers; meet caller at home or in the community with a Crisis Worker.
• Document services provided and follow up with clients as needed.
• Engage in professional development during downtime and contribute to outreach efforts.
