Job summary
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Medicine Unit. This full-time night shift runs 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM with rotating weekends, in a 24-bed Medicine Unit caring for CHF, COPD, sepsis, renal, and other conditions.
The PCT will provide patient care, assist with activities of daily living, take vital signs, draw blood, perform phlebotomy, EKG testing, and specimen collection under RN direction, ensuring patient safety and accurate documentation.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required) and one of the following is required.
- Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, or
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or
- National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), or
- National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), or
- US Navy Hospital Corps School, or
- EMR/EMS/EMT/AEMT/Paramedic, or
- Clinical program enrollment with RN/LPN/RT/PT exposure, or
- Recent PCT/Nursing Assistant experience (within 3 years).
Responsibilities
- Provide patient care and assist with daily activities of living.
- Monitor vital signs, mobility, and ambulation; assist with phlebotomy and specimen collection.
- Perform EKG testing and peripheral IV removal as directed.
- Compliance with patient safety practices and timely documentation.
- Assist with Foley catheter insertion and removal under RN supervision.
