Job summary

Yale New Haven Health Services Corp. through Bridgeport Hospital seeks a dedicated Patient Care Associate (CNA) to join the night shift team. The role supports RN-directed patient care, gathers vital signs, and helps ensure safe, quality treatment for diverse patient needs.

The position requires a CNA credential or equivalent healthcare training, a high school diploma, and English proficiency. BLS certification must be obtained before employment and maintained throughout tenure.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential, EMT, or equivalent clinical experience in healthcare.
• Two years direct patient care experience as dictated by placement, or equivalent education.

Responsibilities

• Under RN direction, engages in tasks and activities to obtain and report information to assist in patient assessment, planning and evaluation.
• Obtains and records vital signs as ordered by the RN.
• Performs technical duties and selected treatments under RN guidance.
• Ensures correct patient identification following policies (ID bands, barcode scans).
• Assists in patient care with emphasis on safety for key populations.
• Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to address patient/family needs with cultural sensitivity.
• Communicates professionally with patients, families, and staff; may cover BA desk when needed.
• Participates in bedside patient reports at shift start and as needed.
• Relocates and rotates to meet patient care needs.
• Completes non-therapeutic tasks under physician/PA/RN guidance; handles pneumatic tube medication delivery and handoff to licensed staff.
