Job summary

Indiana University Health System is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) to support bedside care in a part-time night role. The PCA will assist with meals, mobility, hygiene, and linen delivery while supporting the bedside RN with vital signs and patient safety.

Qualifications

• Requires current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or completion of IU Health PCA education program.
• Knowledge of care appropriate to the patient age and development.
• Up-to-date knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to withstand high levels of tension and stress.
• Ability to maintain concentration amidst interruptions and noise.
• Judgment and initiative in problem resolution.
• Ability to prioritize and manage a high workload in limited time.
• Knowledge of PCA/PCI-related procedures, equipment, software and standards.
• Knowledge of infection control principles.
• Ability to perform physically demanding, repetitive movements.
• Ability to read and perform basic math.
• Ability to organize tasks and attend to details.
• Knowledge of good personal hygiene and aseptic techniques to prevent infection.

Responsibilities

• Assist with meals, beverage delivery, and meal ordering; encourage patient mobility and walking.
• Assist with baths and hygiene; provide clean linens and gowns.
• Maintain patient safety with gait belts and alarms; stay within arm's reach.
• Provide bedside support to RN; report vital sign changes promptly.
• Support patient comfort and overall experience in a fast-paced hospital setting.
