Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama, is seeking staff for the MICU Stepdown department. This full-time night-position runs 7pm–7am at UAB St. Vincent's East in Trussville.

The role involves basic patient care under supervision and routine nursing support in a busy hospital setting. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent (or 1 year of relevant experience) and a current BLS certification within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their vehicles.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. Documents necessary records.
• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience
