Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a patient care assistant to support nursing staff on a night shift. You will assist with daily living activities, monitor patients, take vitals, and help with procedures in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Responsibilities include ensuring patient safety, maintaining accurate records, and communicating observations to RNs. The role demands compassion, reliability, and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and communicate in English clearly.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with medical terminology.
• BLS certification within 30 days as a condition of employment.
• Demonstrated ability to stay calm under stress or emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes.
• Maintains constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned.
• Assists in daily living activities and patient safety, including transport and positioning.
• Performs vital signs, EKGs, and select unit procedures as directed.
• Supports treatments and procedures, prepares equipment, and provides emotional support.
