Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) seeks a Patient Care Technician II to support a decentralized, patient-centered care model under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The role emphasizes multi-skilled activities and teamwork in a hospital setting.

Under RN guidance, the PCT performs essential patient care tasks, adhering to safety standards and completing required certifications (BLS). This position includes night shifts and a 36-hour weekly schedule.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 1 year patient care experience in a health care facility preferred.
• CNA/EMT/Paramedic certification or enrollment in healthcare-related program with Nursing Assistant/Medical Fundamentals course completion preferred.
• BLS certification required within 2 weeks of hire; maintain BLS for Healthcare Providers or ARC CPR/AED as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, perform multi-skilled patient care tasks.
• Support a decentralized, patient-centered approach to care and assist with achieving outcomes.
• Maintain safety standards and assist with basic nursing functions as trained.

Education

High School diploma or GED

1 year of patient care experience in a health care facility

CNA/EMT/Paramedic certification or enrollment in healthcare program with Nursing Assistant/Medical Assistant/Nursing Fundamentals course completion

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 2 weeks of hire
