Job summary

Parkland Health is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse II – Oncology Services to coordinate care using the nursing process for cancer patients. The role emphasizes patient advocacy, education, and interprofessional collaboration to ensure high-quality outcomes.

The RN will perform assessments, administer therapies per policy, and participate in precepting and charge-nurse activities while maintaining compliance with Texas regulations and hospital standards.

Qualifications

• Must graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
• Must have two years of nursing experience.
• Must have current, valid RN license or temporary RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing; or valid Compact RN license.
• Must have current healthcare provider BLS certification from a recognized organization.
• Must attain Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy certificate within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Serves as patient advocate and coordinates care with the health care team.
• Maintains knowledge of relevant rules, regulations, and policies to ensure compliance.
• Performs patient assessments, safe medication administration, and infection control practices.
• Educates patients and families on cancer care, therapies, side effects, and discharge planning.
• Collaborates with wound care, stoma, and ENT specialists as needed.
• Triages patients and navigates the health care system for optimal outcomes.
• Provides direction to non-nursing staff and acts as a preceptor on rotation as Charge Nurse.
• Stays current with oncology practice advances and maintains TX RN licensure and required certifications.
