Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Surgical Step Down Unit (SDU) on the night shift. The role involves delivering professional nursing care per physician plans, assessing needs, planning and implementing treatment, and collaborating with the health care team to ensure holistic patient care.

The nurse will direct care delivery, participate in orientation for new staff, and ensure accurate documentation and patient safety.

Qualifications

• Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice.
• Current New York State license as a Registered Nurse.
• BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications as required.
• ACLS (ICU, Float pool, Emergency Dept)
• TCAR Certification (SICU, PACU)
• PALS, TNCC within first year for Emergency Dept
• Interpersonal skills to interact with patients and families
• Ability to frequently lift/carry >75 lbs and push/pull >100 lbs
• Clear verbal and written communication; documentation of care

Responsibilities

• Collects patient health data with patient, family and other health care providers.
• Performs initial assessment based on patient’s presentation.
• Records data on the nursing component of the Interdisciplinary Admission Assessment.
• Demonstrates awareness of cultural and special needs of age groups served.
• Performs ongoing assessments as per policy and patient response.
• Incorporates discharge planning into the admission process.
• Develops a plan of care and collaborates with patient and family.
• Communicates plan of care to patient, family and health care providers.
• Documents initial plan and updates as required.
• Maintains safe environment and supports patient safety.
