Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a Multispecialty Sonographer for a full-time position at the Grayslake Outpatient and Freestanding ER. The schedule is Sunday to Thursday, 10:30 p.m. to 7 a.m., with on-call and holiday rotation.

You will perform diagnostic ultrasound exams across abdominal, OB/GYN, vascular, breast, and MSK; review requests and patient history; operate ultrasound equipment; educate patients; document studies; and discuss findings with radiologists to support diagnosis.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited diagnostic sonography program or current, active ARDMS certification applicable to the clinical area of practice at the time of hire.
• Certified in two ARDMS areas and one additional ARDMS certification obtained within one year of hire.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations across multiple specialties (abdominal, OB/GYN, vascular, breast, MSK).
• Review imaging requests and patient history to determine protocols.
• Operate ultrasound equipment to produce high-quality images while minimizing exposure.
• Provide patient education before, during, and after procedures.
• Document imaging procedures accurately for patient records and billing.
• Transmit studies to PACS and other imaging systems with correct accession numbers.
• Assist with patient positioning and transport as needed.
• Communicate critical findings promptly to physicians.
• Maintain equipment, supplies, and a clean imaging environment.
