Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Multispecialty Sonographer for night shift (Sun–Thu, 10:30p–7:00a) at Grayslake Outpatient and Freestanding ER. You will perform diagnostic ultrasound exams across abdominal, OB/GYN, vascular, breast, and MSK, ensuring high-quality images and patient comfort.

This full-time role requires ARDMS certification, BLS, and active clinical engagement in a fast-paced imaging department.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited diagnostic sonography program or current, active ARDMS certification applicable to the clinical area of practice at the time of hire.
• Certified in two ARDMS areas and one additional ARDMS certification obtained within one year of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations across multiple specialties (abdominal, OB/GYN, vascular, breast, MSK) per standards.
• Review imaging requests and patient history to determine protocols.
• Operate ultrasound equipment to produce high-quality images while minimizing exposure.
• Provide patient education before, during, and after procedures.
• Assess and care for patients according to department and age-specific standards.
• Communicate findings to radiologists and ordering providers promptly.
• Prepare examination rooms and sterile supplies for procedures.
• Assist with patient positioning and transport as needed.
• Document procedures accurately for patient records and billing.
• Transmit studies to PACS and imaging systems with correct accession numbers.
• Prepare preliminary findings and route to interpreting physicians.
• Perform vascular studies per vascular lab protocols.
