Job summary

The Carolina Center for Behavioral Health is seeking a Mental Health Technician to provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. You will help maintain a safe, therapeutic milieu and assist with activities of daily living in a unit serving diverse age groups and diagnoses.

Qualified candidates will have strong communication skills, confidentiality, and a willingness to participate in crisis interventions and ongoing training.

Qualifications

• High school level reading and writing skills.
• Acceptable oral and written communication skills/ legible handwriting skills.
• Ability to maintain information as highly confidential.
• Certification as nursing assistant or patient care technician and/or familiarity with medical and psychological terminology preferred.
• Skills in dealing courteously with the public and other staff within the organization.
• A basic knowledge of human behavior or principles of psychology will be very useful as well as skills in prioritizing and in managing time.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under the supervision of an RN to adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
• Ensure the safety and well being of these patients and to support the maintenance of therapeutic milieu.
• Provide crisis intervention and assistance with activities of daily living.
• Demonstrate flexibility for reassignment to units providing care to varied populations including male and female, adolescents and adults as well as dually diagnosed adults.
• Conduct 15-minute rounds on patients per policy.
• Participate in restraint and seclusion of patients when required.
• Support facility service excellence standards.
• Assist with bathing patients and changing patient briefs.
• Attend mandatory training.
• Facilitate community group activities on the unit.
