Job summary

University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus is seeking a skilled Laboratory Technician to perform a variety of tests on a range of samples during the night shift. The role requires independent judgment to generate accurate results and to participate fully in the multidisciplinary patient care team.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s in Medical Technology or an Associate’s in Medical Laboratory Technology with relevant experience, and ASCP or equivalent licensure is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, biology or related sciences required; or an Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, or completion of Military Laboratory Technology with a minimum of three years of experience.
• Licensure/Certifications: ASCP or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Independently performs waived, moderate and high complexity testing using manual and automated processes.
• Adheres to regulatory guidelines (CLIA 88, TJC, CAP, FDA, etc.) and addresses concerns as needed.
• Identifies and resolves analytical problems, troubleshoots equipment issues and reviews testing procedures and patient results.
• Maintains QA/QC records and determines the acceptability of testing and instrument function.
• Responds to clinical and customer concerns and resolves issues confidentially.
• Assists with development and modification of procedures and assumes additional responsibilities.
• Attends/Leads mandatory education and in-service meetings specific to department.
