Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a Laboratory Technologist to perform and validate high-complexity tests across hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, microbiology, and blood bank. You will verify specimen quality, troubleshoot results, and maintain instrumentation while meeting turnaround times.

The role requires CLIA-qualified testing, potential training of staff, and collaboration with physicians and nurses across Mercyhealth’s northern Illinois network.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology. Must be qualified to perform high complexity testing according to CLIA 493.1489 Standard; Testing personnel qualifications.
• OR Associates degree in Medical Technology AND MLT certification; must be qualified to perform high complexity testing according to CLIA 493.1489 Standard; Testing personnel qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Utilize the Information System to receive patients, order and collect samples, and document quality control activities.
• Confirm accuracy of patient sample identification prior to analyses and evaluate specimen quality.
• Perform waived, moderate and high complexity lab tests as defined by CLIA in hematology, urinalysis, chemistry, blood bank or microbiology.
• Analyze test results prior to release to chart for validity and accuracy; troubleshoot suspect results.
• Perform preventative maintenance, calibration, and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation.
• Teach students and train new partners; participate in committees and update procedures.
