Job summary

Georgetown University Hospital is seeking a Histology Technician to support the preparation of routine H&E and special stains for surgical specimens. You will assist in the surgical pathology grossing area and help maintain lab operations in accordance with laboratory standards.

Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science and 1-2 years of histology experience in a hospital setting, with ASCP HTL preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a closely related field.
• 1-2 years of histology experience in a hospital clinical laboratory, preferred.
• ASCP HTL certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Specimen Testing and Preparation – embedding, sectioning, staining, labeling for surgical specimens.
• Routine H&E and enzyme staining under pathologist review, including STAT biopsies.
• Quality control and assurance, safety, and regulatory compliance in the histology lab.
• Maintain equipment logs, prepare and manage slides and blocks, and assist in grossing as needed.
• Provide training and support to lab staff to ensure turnaround time standards.
