Job summary

Scripps Health is seeking a full-time Histology Lab Technician for night shift (7 pm – 3:30 am, Mon–Fri) at the histology lab on the Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla campus. Training will occur during day shifts for the first weeks to ensure smooth onboarding.

The role requires tissue processing, embedding, cutting and staining with H&E, special stains, IHC, CISH, or DIF, plus inventory control and cross-department collaboration to support physicians and customers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in a CAP-accredited histology lab preferred.
• Proficient in tissue processing, embedding, sectioning and staining.
• Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; proficient with medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Process, embed, cut, and stain tissues for pathology.
• Manage reagent and tissue control block and slide inventory.
• Assist with departmental duties and train new personnel.
• Serve as liaison with physicians and customers to ensure positive outcomes.
• Perform duties timely while maintaining safety and quality standards.
• Document activities and results clearly and thoroughly.
