Job summary

Akima is seeking a Help Desk Technician for a temporary night shift in Honolulu, HI, with potential to transition to permanent. Hours are 2:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and the role supports executive officers and travels across the area of responsibility.

The technician provides Tier 1 troubleshooting, ITIL-based service desk management, and liaison with DoD networks, ensuring secure communications and incident handling. A proactive, security-minded communicator is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; DoD environment preferred.
• Security+ or equivalent certification and ability to obtain SCI clearance.
• 2+ years in service desk or help desk with hardware, software, and network troubleshooting.
• Experience with Microsoft Office tools and basic system administration concepts.
• Ability to communicate technical issues clearly to non-technical staff.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the initial contact at the help desk, handling hardware, software, and networking issues.
• Manage secure and non-secure communications and supervise information systems installation.
• Coordinate with external organizations like Navy/DoD networks and DISA for communications.
• Operate a service desk tool aligned to ITIL processes: incident, request, problem and access management.
• Support Local Registration Authority duties following DoD and customer standards.
• Submit Monthly Status Reports detailing progress, issues and required government action.
• Maintain proactive vigilance to ensure secure operations of headquarters communications.
