Job summary

Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale, AZ is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator for the Emergency Department to provide administrative support and ensure efficient patient care. The role coordinates admissions, bed assignments, charting, and communication between physicians, nurses and other departments.

The position is a full-time night shift (6:00 PM–6:30 AM) with weekend and holiday rotations and benefits, including scheduling tools access and differential pay.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED required.
• 1 year medical clerical experience preferred.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills required.
• Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at hire may be required for certain Banner facilities.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and computer literacy essential.

Responsibilities

• Performs receptionist/clerical duties to support department efficiency and routes problems for resolution.
• Processes admissions, records bed assignments, prints face sheets and labels.
• Maintains complete patient records with admissions, transfers and discharges; files and scans forms.
• Coordinates pending discharges and schedules procedures prior to timely discharge.
• Maintains supplies and completes requisitions; reconciles orders on delivery.
• Tracks use of equipment (ID scanners, laptops) and ensures functionality.
• Works under supervision on assigned unit; interacts with patients, families, staff and external contacts.
