Job summary

Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC seeks an Environmental Services Specialist for nights to keep patient areas clean, safe, and welcoming. You will help maintain infection control standards across patient rooms, units, offices, and public spaces.

This role requires walking and lifting up to 35 lbs, shifts 11:00 PM–7:30 AM, and competitive pay between $19.00 and $30.40 per hour under the Local 2094 agreement; prior experience in healthcare environment is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum one year of environmental services or janitorial experience.
• Knowledge of universal precautions, PPE, and blood-borne pathogens.
• Ability to operate a variety of cleaning equipment safely.
• Strong communication, time management and judgment.

Responsibilities

• Clean patient rooms, units, and public areas to established standards.
• Operate and maintain cleaning equipment safely.
• Empty trash, replace liners, and manage waste per policy.
• Restock consumables like soap and paper towels.
• Follow universal precautions and HIPAA/privacy requirements.
• Report repairs and safety hazards to supervisor.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with hospital ethics.
• Attend mandatory compliance training.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
