Job summary

Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC, is seeking an Environmental Services Specialist for the Day shift. You will clean patient rooms, clinical areas, and public spaces, operating a range of cleaning equipment and following infection-control standards.

This full-time role requires 1 year in environmental services; you will handle waste, supplies, and safety procedures while maintaining patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum one year of environmental services or janitorial experience required.
• Working knowledge of universal precautions, blood-borne pathogen procedures, and PPE.
• Demonstrated ability to safely operate a variety of cleaning equipment.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and apply sound judgment.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning of patient rooms, nursing units, offices, clinical areas, waiting areas, lobbies, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairwells, and exterior areas to standards.
• Operate cleaning equipment including buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, shampooers, extractors, and other cleaning machines; maintain equipment in safe order.
• Empty trash containers, replace liners, and clean container exteriors; transport waste to disposal areas.
• Replenish expendables including soap, toilet tissue, and paper towels.
• Follow universal precautions and PPE procedures when cleaning patient care areas.
• Report safety hazards and needed repairs to supervisor.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA.
• Attend compliance training and participate in improvement activities.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
