Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC is seeking an Environmental Services Specialist to create a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, families, and staff. You’ll perform cleaning in patient rooms, units, offices, public areas, and exterior spaces, following infection control and safety standards.

This is a part-time, night-shift role (11:00 PM – 7:30 AM, 40 hours/week) non-exempt under Local 2094, with a pay range of $19.00–$30.40 per hour, and opportunities for growth

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum one year of environmental services or janitorial experience required.
• Knowledge of universal precautions and PPE use.
• Ability to safely operate high-powered cleaning equipment.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions with sound judgment.
• Strong customer service orientation with patients, families, visitors, and staff.
• Effective time management, problem-solving, and adaptability skills.

Responsibilities

• Clean patient rooms, nursing units, offices, and common areas to performance standards.
• Operate cleaning equipment including buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, and other machines; maintain equipment.
• Empty trash; transport waste to designated disposal areas.
• Replenish expendable supplies such as soap and toilet tissue.
• Follow universal precautions and PPE when cleaning patient care areas.
• Report safety hazards and needed repairs to supervisor.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and related policies.
• Attend mandatory compliance training and participate in performance improvement activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
