Job summary

Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC is seeking an Environmental Services Specialist for the Day shift (part-time). You will perform cleaning across patient rooms, clinical areas, offices, and public spaces, applying infection control training and safety standards to support safe, patient-centered care.

The role requires physical activity, lifting up to 35 lbs with assistance when needed, and a commitment to teamwork.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum one year of environmental services or janitorial experience.
• Knowledge of universal precautions and PPE use.

Responsibilities

• Clean patient rooms, nursing units, offices, clinical areas, waiting areas, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairwells, and exterior areas to standard.
• Operate cleaning equipment safely and maintain equipment in good condition.
• Empty trash, replace liners, and transport waste per policy.
• Replenish expendable supplies including soap and paper towels.
• Follow universal precautions and PPE guidelines in patient care areas.
• Report hazards and coordinate repairs with supervisor.
• Maintain patient and family confidentiality and comply with HIPAA.
• Attend mandatory Compliance training and participate in performance improvement activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
