Job summary

Rush Oak Park Hospital in Oak Park, IL seeks a Patient Care Tech 1 to support the Emergency Department under RN direction. You will assist with activities of daily living, mobility, and patient care in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The role requires high school completion with specialized training and current CPR, with entry-level clinical experience acceptable. Night shifts, 12-hour shifts, and weekend coverage are included in the schedule.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent with specialized training.
• Entry level experience in healthcare roles is acceptable.
• Formal clinical training such as CMA, CNA, PCT, EMT, corpsman, paramedic, or nursing/medical student experience preferred.
• Current CPR certification is required.
• Good communication skills are essential.
• Computer skills are required.
• Strong time management and organizational skills are necessary.
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts to accommodate staffing.

Responsibilities

• Apply safety devices correctly.
• Assist patients with meals and feeding as appropriate.
• Perform accuchecks 30 minutes before meals and report blood sugar levels to RN.
• Notify the RN immediately of any change in patient condition.
• Maintain therapeutic relationship and provide patient-centered care.
• Communicate effectively with patients at appropriate ages and cognitive levels.
• Collaborate with health care team to ensure high levels of patient care.
• Document accurately at point-of-care when possible.
• Notify charge nurse when leaving the unit.
• Assist patients with personal hygiene and activities of daily living to promote independence.
• Accurately record calorie counts, intake/output, and patient weights.
• Assist with transfers and mobility using proper techniques and equipment.
• Support patient elimination programs for bladder and bowels.
• Hourly rounding to enhance patient satisfaction and responsiveness to call lights.
• Follow CDC hand-washing and isolation precautions.
