Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Maintain current BLS certification.
• Formal clinical training (CMA, CNA, PCT, EMT, corpsman, paramedic, or nursing/medical student).
• Successful completion of institutional screening.
• Ability to solve simple problems.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Reports to charge RN or designate for assignment of duties.
• Maintains a safe patient environment.
• Sets priority of duties based on patient and unit needs.
• Under the direction of the RN, participates in individualized plans of care.
• Assists patients in activities of daily living.
• Accurately obtains patient data and documents all care in the patient care record.
• Performs routine procedures, treatments and specimen collections.
• Demonstrates aseptic technique when necessary.
• Assists RN or physician with advanced procedures.
• Assists the nurse in the management of uncomplicated tubes and drains.
• Performs specific patient care procedures such as blood glucose testing, specimen collection, etc.
• Demonstrates knowledge of age specific variables and growth and development.
• Immediately reports changes in patient condition to the appropriate RN.
• Transports patients and other items as needed.
• Assists with admission, discharge, and transport of patients.
• Transports laboratory specimens and patient belongings as required.
• Obtains blood products, supplies and equipment as necessary.
• Competently utilizes technology.
• Demonstrates proficiency in the use of the telephone and patient call system(s).
• Demonstrates proficiency in the use of EPIC.
• Documents in real time at the point of care.
• Demonstrates proficiency in the use of unit monitors, pumps, and other equipment.
• Maintains a safe and orderly, well equipped environment.
• Maintains a safe work environment by keeping patient rooms and unit orderly and stocked.
• Replenishes patient room supplies and maintains emergency supplies.
• Demonstrates a professional work style with both internal and external customers.
• Communicates all pertinent information to the team during and between shifts.
• Negotiates break times and communicates departure and return times per unit protocol.
• Demonstrates initiative and self-direction in work habits.
