Job summary

City of Lincoln is seeking a Fitter/Welder to perform MIG welding, fit components, and finish welds to blueprints and customer drawings. You will prepare welds, read WPS and production specs, and operate hand tools and grinders.

The role requires 2+ years in structural or pipe welding, a high school diploma, ability to pass in-house weld test, and overtime as needed; safety, Lean 5S, and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • Pass an in-house weld test.

  • Able to read & meet company welding parameters.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ Years Fitting/Welding in Structural and/or Pipe applications.
  • Aluminum welding experience is a plus.
  • Thorough knowledge of welding processes and procedures.
  • Experience interpreting blueprints, operator instructions, and process documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Available to work overtime as needed.
  • Must be able to pass drug screen and background check.

Responsibilities

  • Weld Aluminum and Steel components using AWS D1.1 and D1.2 approved techniques.
  • Read, interpret and fit to dimensions on detailed structural and pipe drawings.
  • Process inspection, certification, and documentation for job assignments.
  • Finish grinding applications using manual and power tools as required.
  • Use fitting tools like tape measure, square, and protractor.
  • Set up weld machines with appropriate amps and volts per parameters.
  • Uphold safety regulations and Lean Manufacturing 5S standards.
  • Maintain clean, organized work area and proper storage of equipment.
  • Adhere to Quality Standards and ensure own work quality.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Must have experience as a fitter.

Description

The Fitter/Welder is responsible for variety of weld preparation, MIG welding, and weld finishing operations to manufacture products to blueprints, customer drawings, specifications, or other forms of instruction.

There is a $2 shift differential (non-exempt employees working night shift hours. Hours are a minimum 7pm-5:30am).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Use AWS D1.1 and D1.2 approved welding techniques to weld Aluminum and Steel components
  • Read, interpret and fit to dimensions on detailed structural and pipe drawings
  • Process inspection, certification, and documentation for job assignment(s)
  • Finish grinding applications using manual and power tools as required
  • Use of fitting tools, including, but not limited to tape measure, square & angles, protractor degrees
  • Complete and understand all necessary weld/machine setup parameters (amps, volts, etc.)
  • Use safe work habits and adhere to all safety regulations and requirements
  • Perform work in adherence with Lean Manufacturing concepts
  • Maintain clean, organized safe working environment with equipment and materials located in proper locations in accordance with 5S standards
  • Adhere to all Quality Standards as responsible for quality of own work
  • Perform other job duties as assigned

  • Ability to push and pull 100 lbs. or more frequently (25%-75%)
  • Ability to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment for this position
