Job summary

Johnston Community School District seeks a night-shift custodian to maintain a clean, safe school environment. You will perform cleaning, basic repairs, and support remodeling tasks as needed, while ensuring security of buildings and equipment.

The role requires physical capability, a high school diploma, and willingness to obtain required certifications. IPERS benefits and a full-time schedule accompany the position.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Meet physical requirements: able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb and work from ladder/scaffolding, stand and walk for long periods.
• Certified Pool Operator certification or willingness to obtain within 90 days.
• Experience in mechanics, heating, plumbing, carpentry, electricity and painting desired.
• Ability to read basic operating instructions and write reports.
• Work experience in educational setting preferred.
• Fireman or engineer license preferred.
• Valid Iowa drivers and/or chauffeurs license required.
• Collaborative and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs general cleaning and maintenance of the school building, including equipment care and minor repairs.
• Assists in remodeling and renovation work and reports major repairs promptly.
• Participates in emergency repair or cleaning services and evacuation situations.
• Locks doors/windows of assigned buildings and cleans corridors as needed.
• Supports in snow removal and moving classroom furniture as required.
• Provides input to set daily schedules and completes duties timely.
