Job summary

MercyOne North Iowa is seeking a Respiratory Therapist for a full-time night shift. The hospital is a 346-bed teaching facility serving over 400,000 inpatients and outpatients annually in Cerro Gordo County.

The role covers acute care, ICU, ED, and other clinical areas with a wide range of respiratory procedures. The position requires NBRC credentials, Iowa licensure, and ability to work with patients of all ages.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or equivalent; or associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science.
• Graduate of respiratory therapy program required or board-eligible within a few months of graduation as certification is required at hire/transfer.
• Credentialed by the NBRC at the Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered Respiratory Therapist level required.
• Current Respiratory Care Practitioner licensure in the state of Iowa required.
• CAPRS and N95 fit testing validation within 30 days of hire required.

Responsibilities

• Performs incentive spirometry, aerosol therapy, oxygen therapy, pulmonary drainage procedures, BIPAP/CPAP, ventilator management, and related procedures following physician orders.
• Assesses patients receiving respiratory care using bedside assessment techniques and knowledge of indications, contraindications and hazards.
• Performs basic spirometry, ECGs, arterial blood gas sampling and analysis.
• Provides patient education and assists with community events dealing with Respiratory Care.
• Areas worked include general acute care, ICU, ED, surgical suites, recovery rooms and skilled nursing facilities.
