Job summary

Pittsburgh Mercy is seeking a Program Assistant to foster a safe, supportive living environment for individuals experiencing homelessness at Second Avenue Commons. You will supervise guests and Drop-In Center participants, engage them in daily activities, and promote independence while coordinating with shelter staff and emergency responders.

Reporting to Program Supervisors, you will help maintain clean, welcoming spaces, report safety concerns, and ensure compliance with laws and Pittsburgh

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in human services or related field, or High School Diploma with 4 years related experience.
• Certification as a Peer Specialist is required.
• Act 33/34 and FBI clearances.
• Pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Supervise shelter guests, Drop-In Center participants, and visitors to maintain safety and order.
• Engage guests in daily activities to promote independence and socialization.
• Monitor facilities and report safety concerns, incidents, or illegal activities.
• Collaborate with Program Supervisors, staff, partners, and emergency responders as needed.
• Assist with upkeep of shelter rooms and common areas to support a positive environment.
