Job summary

NBCUniversal in Philadelphia is seeking a seasoned Assignment Editor to lead coverage of breaking news for both newsroom and field teams. You will research, coordinate, and implement stories, book experts, and collaborate with digital and streaming units.

Requires 4+ years in broadcast news, 2 years as an Assignment Editor, and strong communication across editorial and technical teams. On-site Philadelphia role with a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communications or equivalent experience.
At least 4 years’ experience in broadcast news, coordinating assignments, generating story ideas.
Two years’ experience as an Assignment Editor.
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Responsibilities

Lead coverage of breaking/developing news stories editorially and logistically for newsroom and field crews.
Research, coordinate, pitch & implement coverage of breaking news, continuing coverage, and community stories.
Collaborate with website, social media, and streaming teams.
Initiate & maintain communication with affiliates & News Channel counterparts.
Monitor and break news through social media platforms and tools.
