Job summary

NBCUniversal in Philadelphia is seeking a seasoned Assignment Editor to lead coverage of breaking news for both newsroom and field teams. You will research, coordinate, and implement stories, book experts, and collaborate with digital and streaming units.

Requires 4+ years in broadcast news, 2 years as an Assignment Editor, and strong communication across editorial and technical teams. On-site Philadelphia role with a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communications or equivalent experience.
  • At least 4 years’ experience in broadcast news, coordinating assignments, generating story ideas.
  • Two years’ experience as an Assignment Editor.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Job Description
  • Lead coverage of breaking/developing news stories both editorially and logistically for both the newsroom and field crews

  • Ability to find & book experts and community members who help define a story
  • Collaborate with the website, social media, and streaming teams
  • Initiate & maintain communication with affiliates & News Channel counterparts
  • Consistently monitor and break news through social media platforms and tools
  • Establish & maintain working story & contact files
  • Working Knowledge of Police Scanners
  • Working knowledge of live production/transmission
  • Able to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to clearly communicate ideas and status updates to both editorial and technical teams

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communications preferred or equivalent experience.
  • At least 4 years’ experience including: work in a broadcast news environment, coordinating assignments, generating story ideas.
  • Two years’ experience as an Assignment Editor.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Eligibility Requirements
  • Must have the ability to work any of a 24 x 7 shift including the potential for weekends, holidays and overnights
  • Must be over 18 years old
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
  • Must be willing to work in Philadelphia, PA
  • Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.
