Job summary

NBCUniversal is seeking an Assignment Editor in Philadelphia to lead coverage of breaking news both editorially and logistically. The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years of experience in a broadcast news environment, coordinating assignments and generating story ideas. A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communications is required.

This full-time on-site position requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently, and a passion for news across multiple platforms.

• Lead coverage of breaking/developing news stories both editorially and logistically for both the newsroom and field crews
• Research, coordinate, pitch and implement coverage of breaking news, continuing coverage and community stories
• Ability to quickly assess what is needed on coverage of a breaking story
• Ability to find and book experts and community members who help define a story
• Collaborate with the website, social media, and streaming teams
• Initiate and maintain communication with affiliates and News Channel counterparts
• Consistently monitor and break news through social media platforms and tools
• Establish and maintain working story and contact files
• Working knowledge of Police Scanners
• Working knowledge of live production/transmission
• Able to work independently and as a member of a team

Eligibility Requirements

• Must have the ability to work any of a 24 x 7 shift including the potential for weekends, holidays and overnights

• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
• Must be willing to work in Philadelphia, PA
• Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite
