Job summary

sefl in Columbus, GA is seeking a FT Inbound Freight Handler to load and unload freight and assist in recouping damaged freight.

You will prepare trailers, use proper lifting techniques, operate forklifts and other equipment, weigh and dimension shipments, and verify paperwork including hazardous material placarding when needed. A HS diploma or GED is preferred and background/drug tests are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
• Ability to pass a background check and an alcohol and drug test is required.
• Prior experience as Forklift Operator, Dock or Warehouse Worker, or Material Handler is preferred.
• Forklift Certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight onto and off equipment.
• Assist in recouping damaged freight.
• Prepare, sweep, inspect and clean trailers before loading freight.
• Use safe lifting techniques to load/unload freight.
• Operate forklifts and other handling equipment safely.
• Weigh and dimension shipments to ensure proper classification.
• Plan cube utilization and weight distribution when loading freight.
• Count and inspect freight and document shortages or damage.
• Review freight bills and manifests for instructions and discrepancies.
• Check for hazardous material descriptions and proper placarding when needed.
• Block and brace freight to prevent shifting during transport.
