Job summary

Newark Board of Education is hiring for a Senior Custodian Night across several campuses in Newark. The role oversees custodial staff, plans cleaning schedules, and ensures safe maintenance of school facilities.

Requirements include high school completion or equivalency, 2 years of facilities maintenance experience with 1 year in supervision, and a valid Black Seal Boiler Operator License. A NJ driver’s license is needed if vehicle operation is required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from High School or Vocational School or possession of an approved High School Equivalent Certificate.
• Two years of experience in heating, inspection, cleaning, and maintenance of furniture, fixtures, offices and buildings, and one year in a supervisory capacity.
• Appointees will be required to possess a current, valid Black Seal Boiler Operator License issued by the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
• Applicants will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform duties.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, analyzes, and determines cleaning work to be done and materials needed.
• Establishes, maintains, and develops work plans for subordinates.
• Supervises and leads cleaning, maintenance, and care of buildings and grounds.
• Supervises cleaning and maintenance of desks, chairs, rugs, lighting fixtures, windows, and other furniture and fixtures.
• Supervises floor care including sweeping, washing, and sanding.
