Job summary

The People Concern in Los Angeles seeks an Overnight Counselor Advocate to support residents at the Sojourn Shelter Services. This full-time, non-management role operates 11pm–7:30am onsite, focusing on safety, crisis intervention, and empowerment for adults and children affected by domestic violence.

You will document services, coordinate with partners, lead groups, assist with life skills, and help with transportation and intake.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Strong trauma-informed approach to crisis care and de-escalation.
• Experience documenting client services and progress notes.
• Ability to coordinate safety planning and community referrals.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate progress notes and documentation of client services.
• Adhere to program guidelines, confidentiality, HIPAA, safety and crisis intervention.
• Provide direct services: crisis assistance, empowerment, trauma-informed care.
• Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, screenings and referrals.
• Assist with client entry/exit of shelter programs and transportation as needed.
• Facilitate support groups for adults and children; occasional child-care.
• Ensure adherence to shelter guidelines under shelter management.
• Provide resources and referrals to clients and families.
• Train, assist and provide feedback to volunteers; other duties as assigned.
