Job summary

The People Concern is seeking a Counselor Advocate for Sojourn Adam's House Crisis Shelter in Los Angeles. This 100% onsite, full-time role supports adult and child victims of domestic violence through crisis intervention, safety planning, and empowerment-based services.

You will maintain case notes, assist with client entry/exit, lead support groups, and coordinate with partners while upholding confidentiality and trauma-informed care principles.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Valid California Driver's License and access to own vehicle.
• Ability to supervise shelter participants with dignity and respect.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and handle emergencies as needed.
• Ability to engage participants and troubleshoot problems.
• Willingness to receive 40-hour Domestic Violence Training.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate progress notes and documentation of client services.
• Provide direct services including crisis intervention, safety planning, and resources.
• Assist with client entry/exit from shelter and transportation to appointments.
• Facilitate adult and child support groups; provide child-care occasionally.
• Ensure confidentiality and adherence to shelter guidelines under supervision.
• Train, assist, and provide feedback to volunteers; coordinate with staff.
• Participate in safety drills, meetings, and community outreach.
