Job summary

UNC Health Johnston Special Care Nursery in Smithfield, NC is hiring for Summer New Grad 2027 nurses. The NICU unit offers a Level II setting with 3 licensed beds, in partnership with Rex Neonatologists and Neonatal Nurse Practitioners. Start dates June 2027 - August 2027, varied by graduation and NCLEX dates.

Schedule includes 3 shifts in a 6-week cycle. Provides competent clinical nursing care under supervision reporting to Nurse Manager/Director.

Qualifications

• Graduation from school of professional nursing.
• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the date of clinical care.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• No prior experience required.

Responsibilities

• Education - participate in learning needs of self and attend education programs.
• Evaluation of Care - participate in multidisciplinary evaluation and continuity of care.
• Implementation - provide competent care for patients with complex needs and coordinate with team.
• Leadership - contribute to unit goals and performance improvement.
• Patient Assessment - identify priorities and plan for discharge needs.
• Planning - collaborate with patient/family to update the care plan.
• Research - engage with journals and staff to apply applicable findings.
