Job summary

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is offering an 18-month apprenticeship in the payroll department. The role combines NHS experience with achieving Payroll Administrator Level 3, supported by a dedicated payroll mentor.

It is a fixed-term contract for 18 months with structured training and full-time hours. The apprentice will learn payroll systems, manage sections of weekly/monthly payroll, and work towards the Payroll Administrator Level 3 while maintaining accuracy and

Qualifications

• 5 GCSEs at grade 5 or above to include Maths and English.
• ECDL or equivalent computer skills as a minimum.
• Experience in an office role (paid or voluntary).
• Experience in an NHS payroll environment.
• Experience managing own workload.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and ability to prioritise deadlines.
• Proven interpersonal skills and flexible, proactive approach.
• Excellent telephone manner and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Support the provision of an accurate and timely payroll service for clients.
• Be responsible for a section of weekly and monthly payroll with supervision.
• Process payroll activities in line with statutory and NHS terms and conditions.
• Fulfill the Payroll Administrator Level 3 requirements alongside day-to-day payroll duties.
