Job summary

STI Federal, a Chippewa Government Solutions LLC company, is seeking a Biological Technician - NGS to contribute to sequencing respiratory viruses in our Atlanta, GA lab. This full-time professional role supports government-focused sequencing projects within a growing team.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and have hands-on molecular biology or NGS experience. Experience in regulated labs and ability to obtain required clearances are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Microbiology, Biotechnology, or related field.
• Hands-on laboratory experience with molecular biology techniques and/or next‑generation sequencing workflows.
• Experience in a regulated or quality‑controlled laboratory environment preferred.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or other government‑required clearance.

Responsibilities

• Perform scientific and technical activities supporting next-generation sequencing (NGS), molecular biology, and genomic laboratory workflows for sequencing respiratory viruses.
• Independently execute end ‑ to ‑ end NGS workflows, including nucleic acid extraction, library preparation, amplification/target enrichment, sequencing, and associated quality ‑ control procedures.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot NGS platforms and laboratory instrumentation in accordance with standard procedures and manufacturer specifications.
• Assist with the development, optimization, evaluation, verification, and validation of NGS assays and workflows, particularly those related to metagenomic sequencing.
• Conduct experiments to evaluate analytical performance characteristics such as accuracy, reproducibility, sensitivity, and specificity.
• Maintain accurate, complete laboratory records and ensure all work is performed in compliance with SOPs, quality ‑ management practices, biosafety requirements, and laboratory procedures.
• Apply basic bioinformatics knowledge—when available—to support review and interpretation of sequencing data; bioinformatics experience is desirable but not required.
