Job summary

Teradata is seeking a Database Internals Engineer to help design and implement a next-generation parallel compute engine. You will join the Office of the CTO's Advanced Research Team, tackling massively parallel architectures and distributed execution across nodes.

You will work on core components from the ground up, collaborate with senior engineers, and contribute to a greenfield engine while maintaining rigorous design, testing, and performance benchmarks.

Qualifications

• Experience with distributed query optimization and parallel execution
• Familiarity with distributed execution frameworks like DataFusion
• Strong systems programming with memory-safety discipline in Rust or C/C++

Responsibilities

• Develop core components of a next-generation parallel compute engine (tokenizer/parser/binder, planner, optimizer, operators)
• Build storage substrate (Arrow in-memory format, on-disk format, buffer pool, B-tree/LSM)
• Implement transactions and recovery (MVCC, WAL, checkpoints)
• Add parallelism and distribution for query work with exchange-based execution
• Write design specs, create tests first, verify safety before performance, report benchmarks
