Job summary

Nexstar Media Group Inc. is seeking an Assistant News Director to support the News Director in all aspects of news, weather and sports programming production.

The role includes planning, staffing, training and evaluating the News Department, and mentoring staff to improve coverage and performance. Responsibilities include developing coverage strategy for the station and its website, critiquing newscasts to enhance accuracy, and supervising projects to meet deadlines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Fluency in English and excellent oral/written communication.
• Minimum two years’ experience in news programming production, with some leadership experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists the News Director with planning, staffing, training and evaluations for the News Department.
• Develops news coverage strategy for the station and its website.
• Critiques newscasts daily to correct errors and mentor staff.
• Assigns projects to staff and monitors deadlines to ensure timely delivery.
• Responds to coverage questions and determines programming and equipment needs.
