Job summary

UMass Medical School is seeking a Lab Analyst Team Lead in Worcester, MA to oversee day-to-day lab operations in the newborn screening program. You will supervise staff, ensure accurate testing from receipt to analysis, and collaborate with scientists on quality assurance and safety protocols.

The role requires a Bachelor's in chemical, life, or clinical sciences, 5 years of clinical lab experience, and CLIA high-complexity qualification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemical, life or clinical sciences or equivalent.
• 5 years of relevant experience including clinical laboratory experience.
• Must satisfy CLIA requirements for high complexity testing.
• Skilled in the knowledge, performance, and interpretation of lab tests and techniques.
• Skilled in computer file management and general software usage.
• Flexibility in work schedule as required by laboratory section.

Responsibilities

• Oversees the scheduling and work activities of Lab Analysts to ensure accurate and timely clinical testing and reporting.
• Performs and documents laboratory activities for development, validation, and troubleshooting of assays and tests.
• Supervises and documents validation and troubleshooting of instrumentation used in screening procedures.
• Supervises and documents the relationship between instrumentation and the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• Maintains QA, QC, and competency data and ensures compliance with CLIA requirements.
• Maintains and implements written policies and SOPs.
• Participates in safety, privacy and compliance protocols.
• Ensures analysts comply with safety and privacy protocols.
• Instructs other analysts in test methodologies and techniques.
• Performs assays with proper documentation as part of the section's analysts.
• Manages lab supply inventory and assists in preparation of reagents and kits.
• Participates in R&D of new methodologies under scientist guidance.
