Job summary

UNC Medical Center Observ Unit Main Campus in Chapel Hill seeks a Registered Nurse for its 12-month New Graduate Residency Program, a yearlong, structured transition-to-practice with unit-based orientation and mentorship. The role is full-time, 36 hours weekly, with rotating day/night shifts and weekends.

Qualification includes NC RN licensure, a board-approved nursing program, and BLS. Relocation assistance up to $10,000 may be offered; internal candidates apply if currently UNC employees.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Board of Nursing approved nursing education program.
• RN licensure in North Carolina by the day of clinical care.
• BLS for Healthcare Provider certification.

Responsibilities

• Education - identify and meet learning needs; attend programs; assess readiness to learn; tailor teaching to patient/family/caregivers.
• Evaluation of Care - identify expected outcomes; revise plan of care; discuss care with team; communicate for continuity.
• Implementation - care for patients with complex problems; perform bedside testing as required; follow policies; organize and prioritize care.
• Leadership - set goals for professional growth; collaborate interdepartmentally; support unit goals and cost-effective care.
• Patient Assessment - synthesize data to determine priorities; plan care with family; anticipate discharge needs.
• Planning - prepare/update care plan with patient/family; use multidisciplinary resources; address cultural issues.
• Research - read journals; bring ideas to staff for applicability.
