Scholastic Book Fairs are in-person experiences that empower kids to discover books for themselves. Taking place in schools and rooted in Scholastic’s mission to use the power of books for the betterment of all kids, Fairs bring communities together. Annually, Scholastic hosts 110,000 pop-up shops, raising over $200 million for schools.

We aim to deliver inspiring experiences that promote reading and lifelong learning. We seek a New Business Sales Representative to secure new opportunities and expand the Book Fair business, supporting our mission and values.

Primary Objectives

  • Prospecting: Identify potential school and district partners; initiate outreach via calls, emails, and social media.
  • Lead Qualification: Understand prospects' needs and interests; set appointments and pass qualified leads to Account Managers.
  • Relationship Building: Establish rapport with educators and administrators, emphasizing the value of Scholastic Reading Events.
  • Pipeline Management: Maintain records in CRM; track progress toward goals.
  • Collaboration & Strategy: Work with the sales team to improve outreach; stay informed on industry trends and customer needs.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Book events from prospecting lists; identify opportunities through grants, non-profit, and corporate channels.
  • Coordinate revenue-building activities; maintain accurate records; prioritize tasks to meet goals.
  • Support customer satisfaction through effective sales and service execution.

Customer Focus

  • Develop relationships by understanding and meeting customer needs.
  • Build rapport, address concerns, and ensure positive experiences.

Teamwork

  • Collaborate with Operations; share updated customer information.
  • Contribute to team performance; suggest improvements; build relationships internally and externally.

Functional Expertise & Personal Effectiveness

  • Support our mission and values; implement new technologies; adapt to change.
  • Maintain confidentiality; attend events; perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Business, Marketing, or related field.
  • At least 3 years of successful sales experience in retail, district/territory sales, or event management.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, CRM, and sales software.
  • Knowledge of children’s literature and school activities preferred.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and marketing skills.
