Job description

• Work with employee health insurance brokers and carriers to evaluate new cases and ensure timely approval and processing of applications
• Evaluate new case and add-on risks using enrollment materials and detailed medical records to determine underwriting actions
• Enroll new groups and members on carrier online systems
• Review final rates, benefit options, and underwriting requirements
• Contact agents/brokers to request additional information after case review
• Generate quotes based on actual enrollment to ensure accurate premiums are sent to carriers
• Notify agents/brokers about overdue premium payments and case status, including approved, declined, or withdrawn cases
• Adhere to company confidentiality standards
• Process broker of record change letters and agent licensing
• Answer broker questions
• Keep current with medical conditions/terminology and insurance products
• Complete other projects as assigned

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of one (1) year of underwriting or related group health insurance experience
• Working knowledge of medical conditions/terminology and insurance products
• Basic understanding of underwriting principles
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook Exchange
• Proficient in Internet Explorer
• Effective verbal and written communication with internal and external personnel
• Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret underwriting procedures, requirements, regulations, and contracts
• Ability to negotiate with agents and brokers
• Ability to maintain complete confidentiality of information
• Ability to determine when problems should be escalated
• Ability to work in and contribute to a positive team environment
• Ability to complete tasks on time while managing multiple tasks simultaneously
• Ability to sit, frequently speak and hear, occasionally stand, walk, bend, crawl, and kneel
