University of Maryland Capital Region Health is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA) to join our growing neuroscience team in Largo, Maryland.

This is an exciting opportunity for a PA who thrives in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment and wants hands-on experience across neurosurgery, neurocritical care, neurointerventional radiology, and elective neurosurgical care.

The primary schedule for this position consists of 25-hour shifts, offering a unique opportunity to provide continuity of care while working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary neuroscience team.

You’ll also be trained across multiple aspects of the neuroscience service and have opportunities to cross-train and provide coverage for other APP-led service lines at UM Capital Region Health, expanding both your clinical experience and professional skill set.

What You’ll Do

Working collaboratively with neurosurgeons, physicians, APPs, nurses, and other members of the care team, you will provide comprehensive care to acutely and critically ill neuroscience patients.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

• Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive care to critically ill patients
• Obtain comprehensive medical histories and perform physical examinations
• Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests and laboratory studies
• Develop initial diagnoses and treatment plans in collaboration with the physician team
• Coordinate care and communicate effectively with attending physicians, consulting services, nursing teams, patients, and families
• Educate and counsel patients and families throughout the course of care
• Perform advanced procedures in accordance with approved privileges and demonstrated competency
• Assist with wound management, suturing, and other bedside procedures
• First assist in the operating room when needed
• Support continuity and full clinical coverage across the neuroscience service

Develop Advanced Neurosurgical Skills

This role provides the opportunity to develop and maintain specialized procedural competencies within a comprehensive neuroscience program.

Depending on privileges, training, and demonstrated competency, procedures may include:

• Placement and management of intracranial monitoring systems
• External ventricular drain (EVD) placement
• VP shunt taps
• Suturing
• Advanced wound care
• Other procedures within the provider'
