University of Maryland Capital Region Health seeks an experienced Acute Care APP (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our Neuroscience team with a primary focus in Neurointerventional Radiology.

You will provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive care to acutely ill patients, collaborating with physicians, APPs, and nurses while gaining expertise across the neuroscience program including neurocritical care and elective neurosurgical services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program or an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program.
• Active NCCPA certification or APRN license.
• Active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Physicians or Board of Nursing.

Responsibilities

Advance Your Career in Neurointerventional Radiology

University of Maryland Capital Region Health is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our growing neuroscience team with a primary focus in Neurointerventional Radiology (NIR).

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary neuroscience program supporting neurointerventional radiology, neurosurgery, neurocritical care, and elective neurosurgical services.

The primary schedule for this position consists of Neurointerventional Radiology day shifts, providing an opportunity to build specialized expertise while collaborating closely with physicians, APPs, nurses, and other neuroscience professionals.

You’ll also receive training across the neuroscience team and may have opportunities to provide cross-coverage within other APP service lines in the specialty, expanding your clinical knowledge and procedural experience.

What You'll Do

• Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive care to acutely and critically ill patients
• Obtain comprehensive medical histories and perform physical examinations
• Participate in daily patient rounds
• Order and interpret diagnostic testing and laboratory studies
• Develop initial diagnoses and treatment plans in collaboration with physicians
• Assist with the coordination and management of patients undergoing neurointerventional evaluation and treatment
• Communicate effectively with attending physicians, consulting services, nursing teams, patients, and families
• Educate and counsel patients and families regarding diagnoses, procedures, treatment plans, and ongoing care
• Perform therapeutic and advanced procedures within the provider's approved privileges and demonstrated competencies
• Provide suturing and wound care as clinically appropriate
• May first assist in the operating room when necessary
• Support continuity and full clinical coverage across the neuroscience service

Develop Advanced Neuroscience & Procedural Skills

This position offers the opportunity to build specialized clinical and procedural expertise within a comprehensive neuroscience program.

Procedures May Include

• Placement and management of intracranial monitoring systems
• External ventricular drain (EVD) placement
• VP shunt taps
• Suturing
• Advanced wound care
• Other procedures included within the provider's approved delineation of privileges

You’ll work alongside a multifaceted team caring for patients across Neurointerventional Radiology, Neurocritical Care, Neurosurgery, and elective neurosurgical services.

Cross-Training & Collaboration

While your primary responsibility will be Neurointerventional Radiology day coverage, you'll be trained to support the broader neuroscience team.

Based on training, clinical needs, and scheduling requirements, you may also have opportunities to provide cross-coverage for other APP service lines within the specialty, separate from your regularly required shifts.

Providers are expected to maintain applicable continuing education requirements, including 50 hours of Category I CME every two years, 32 hours of trauma-related CME, and 16 hours of stroke-related CME, as required for the position.

Qualifications

Physician Assistants

• Bachelor's degree required
• Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program
• Current NCCPA certification
• Active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Physicians

Nurse Practitioners

• Bachelor's degree and prior RN experience
• Completion of an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program
• Active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Nursing

Additional Requirements

• At least one year of neurosurgery or neurocritical care experience preferred
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• ENLS and ATLS certification preferredMust successfully complete credentialing through the UM Capital Region Health Medical Staff Office
• Must meet applicable Maryland Board of Physicians or Maryland Board of Nursing standards and procedural protocols
