Job summary

University of Maryland Capital Region Health seeks an experienced Acute Care NP or PA to join the ACES team in Largo, MD, on a PRN basis. You will provide comprehensive care to acutely and critically ill surgical patients as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The role offers exposure to trauma, acute care surgery, and operating room procedures, with flexible scheduling and opportunities to participate in quality improvement and education initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current NCCPA certification (for PA) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program completion (for NP).
• Active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Physicians or Nursing board.

University of Maryland Capital Region Health is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Acute Care Emergency Surgery (ACES) team in Largo, Maryland, on a PRN basis.

This is an exciting opportunity for an APP who thrives in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment and enjoys the variety of trauma, acute care surgery, procedural care, and the operating room.

Our ACES APPs work alongside a multidisciplinary team providing care across trauma and acute care surgery, with opportunities to support urology, plastics, vascular, and thoracic surgery as needed.

Flexible PRN Scheduling

PRN APPs May Provide Coverage Through

• 25-hour shifts
• 11-hour day shifts
• Minimum commitment of two clinical shifts per quarter

Our PRN APPs are trained to support all aspects of the ACES service, helping ensure consistent clinical coverage while becoming an integral part of the surgical care team.

What You'll Do

Working collaboratively with attending physicians and the broader care team, you will provide comprehensive care to acutely and critically ill surgical patients throughout their hospitalization.

Responsibilities Include

• Perform comprehensive histories and physical examinations
• Participate in daily patient rounds
• Order and interpret diagnostic and laboratory testing
• Develop initial diagnoses and treatment plans in collaboration with physicians
• Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive care to critically ill patients
• Coordinate and communicate care with attending physicians, consulting services, nursing teams, patients, and families
• Perform advanced bedside procedures in accordance with approved privileges, including procedures such as central line and chest tube placement
• First assist in the operating room
• Educate and counsel patients and families regarding treatment plans and ongoing care
• Assist with continuity and coordination of care across surgical services
• Perform duties consistent with the provider's collaboration agreement, delineation of privileges, and applicable Maryland Board standards

Providers are expected to maintain applicable continuing medical education requirements, including 50 hours of Category I CME every two years and 32 hours of trauma-related CME, as required for the role.

Minimum Qualifications

Physician Assistants

• Bachelor's degree required
• Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program
• Current NCCPA certification
• Active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Physicians

Nurse Practitioners

• Bachelor's degree and prior RN experience
• Completion of an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program
• Active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Nursing

Additional Requirements

• Minimum of one year of Emergency Department, General Surgery, or Trauma experience preferred
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• ATLS certification preferred
• Must successfully complete credentialing through the UM Capital Region Health Medical Staff Office
• Must meet all applicable Maryland Board of Physicians or Maryland Board of Nursing requirements and procedural protocols
