Job description

The Medical Assistant / Surgery Scheduler will support the CarePoint Neurosurgery division. This is a hybrid position that combines detail-oriented surgery scheduling with patient-facing medical assistance to create a seamless and exceptional experience for our patients. The Medical Assistant / Surgery Scheduler will act as a point of contact for patients throughout the entire surgical process and ensure that all necessary information regarding appointments and/or surgery has been obtained. The Medical Assistant / Surgery Scheduler is responsible for facilitating an efficient clinic of 2 providers.

Position Requirements

Education : High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience : Minimum of 1 year of experience in an outpatient clinical setting.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :
  • Knowledge of basic clinic function and flow. Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work with all members of the practice.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, providers, and payors.
  • Strong commitment to actively supporting an ethical, open working environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, G Suite, and Electronic Medical Record systems.
  • Ability to prioritize and problem solve.
  • Ability to excel in a team-based environment.
Job Responsibilities
  1. Room patients, take medical histories, and record vital signs to prepare patients for examination.
  2. Arrange exam room instruments and equipment.
  3. Keep waiting rooms and exam rooms neat and clean.
  4. Follow up with patients before and after surgery.
  5. Coordinate patient appointments, orders, referrals, imaging reports, and records, including pre-appointment testing and any necessary records prior to the patient appointment.
  6. Scan patient information and enter patient data into computer.
  7. Send letters to PCP as needed (e.g., no-shows, record requests).
  8. Triage incoming calls and schedule patients for appointments.
  9. Make photocopies and process faxes as necessary.
  10. Participate in the delivery of quality care for our patients.
  11. Run an efficient clinic at least 1 day per week.
  12. Collect deductibles from patients undergoing surgery.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by Service Line Manager or physician.
  14. Facilitate scheduling between patients and hospital/surgical centers.
  15. Contact insurance carriers to verify benefits and request and secure necessary authorizations.
  16. Obtain pre-op clearance and fax to facilities prior to surgery.
  17. Educate patients on the pre-op process and reach out to patients at designated intervals prior to surgery to ensure preparedness for their upcoming surgery.
  18. Act as a point of contact for patients and provide frequent, clear, concise, and relevant information throughout the surgical process.
  19. Be available to assist with any patient needs related to upcoming appointments or surgery.
  20. Demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology and display high proficiency in general medical office procedures, including HIPAA regulations.
  21. Maintain a high level of productivity.
  22. Clearly document all communication with providers and patients.
Location

This person will work primarily at CarePoint Health's corporate office and Swedish Medical Center. There will be opportunities to work from home at times as well.

Compensation

Starting at $21/hour.
