Job summary

UC San Diego is seeking a Staff Research Associate II to support a neuroscience research lab. The role involves coordinating daily lab operations, managing the mouse colony, maintaining protocols, and ensuring EH&S compliance.

You will perform genotyping, tissue collection, and other technical procedures while contributing to grant writing and publications. The position requires strong organizational skills, independent decision-making, and collaboration with a diverse research team.

Qualifications

• Theoretical knowledge in Genetics, Molecular Biology and neuroscience or related field with Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Experience with mouse colony maintenance, genotyping, tissue collection and preparation.
• Strong research design and problem-solving skills with ability to use scientific papers to inform experiments.
• Ability to make independent decisions and analyze situations for effective research.
• Experience in lab management including ordering supplies and acting as safety manager.
• Experience designing and troubleshooting experiments.
• Ability to contribute to grant proposals, progress reports and publications.
• Knowledge of mouse genetics and husbandry.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate day-to-day lab operations, including finances, animal colony management, regulatory and safety compliance.
• Maintain animal research protocols and support EH&S requirements.
• Perform technical research activities (mouse colony maintenance, genotyping, tissue collection).
• Act as lab and safety manager and manage lab resources and space.
• Prepare data and contribute to grant proposals, manuscripts and reports.
